Satellite snapshot of Mount Gangkhar Puensum becomes an interactive surface into which the viewer actively enters and metaphorically transforms it. The mountain is one of the last places on the planet where no man had ever set foot and will remain so at least for some time, because climbing of high mountains in this region has been prohibited of the respect for local customs that consider this and similar peaks to be the sacred homes of protective spirits and the lack of high-altitude rescue resources. On the site of contact, of the participant with an interactive surface, a trace of glitch appears, deriving from errors in the digital compression – “compression artifacts”. As in the compression loss the original information is lost, in this symbolic restructuring the loss of unspoilt area. Passive observer turns into an active participant and, as such forced to take responsibility for the results of their own actions and the actions of mankind.
